The Art Of Layering Your Fragarnces
Share
One of my favourite things about perfume is that it doesn’t have to be worn just one way. Sure, you can spritz on a single scent and head out the door—but sometimes, I like to play a little. Layering fragrances lets me create something that feels like mine alone, and honestly, it’s one of the easiest ways to make perfume more special.
Layering Perfume with Perfume
When I first started layering, I kept it simple: just two perfumes. That way, I could actually smell how they worked together without feeling overwhelmed. Usually, I pick one fragrance to be the “base”—something cozy like musk, vanilla, or sandalwood. Then I add a lighter perfume on top, like citrus or a floral, to brighten things up.
I’ll spray the deeper scent closer to my skin (wrists, chest, even the inside of my elbows) and the lighter one on top or around my neck. Sometimes just changing the ratio—like one spritz of vanilla and two of rose—creates a completely different vibe.
Some layering pairings I love from my collection:
-
Parfums de Marly Delina + Blanche Bête → Delina’s juicy rose brightens beautifully against Blanche Bête’s soft, milky musk for a dreamy, romantic blend.
-
Blanche Bête + 22 Orris → A musky, powdery pairing that feels elegant, airy, and almost second-skin.
-
Snif Heal the Way + Tres Chere → The fresh, clean notes of Heal the Way complement Tres Chere’s soft floral vanilla for a cozy yet modern scent.
-
Delina + Tres Chere → Sparkling rose from Delina meets the gentle floral vanilla of Tres Chere for a feminine, luminous blend.
-
22 Orris + a vanilla-leaning scent → Powdery sophistication layered over soft sweetness—perfect for cooler days.

Layering with Body Butters, Lotions & Oils
Layering doesn’t always mean perfume on perfume. In fact, one of my best tricks for making a scent last all day is starting with body butter, lotion, or oil. Fragrance clings to moisturized skin so much better, and it keeps the perfume from fading too quickly.
If I’m using an unscented lotion, it gives me a clean base that won’t interfere. But I also love experimenting with scented ones. A vanilla body butter under a floral perfume turns into this delicious gourmand blend. Coconut lotion with musk? Instant vacation vibes. And if I use a scented oil first, the richness anchors the perfume and lingers for hours.
Why I Love It
There’s really no “right” way to layer—half the fun is discovering combos that make you stop and say, oh wow, that’s me. Some days I want something light and fresh, other days warm and sultry, and layering lets me shift and play with those moods.
So next time you’re getting ready, try mixing things up—literally. Start small, trust your nose, and you might stumble on a signature blend that feels more personal than any single bottle ever could.
